Fashion is global, influence comes from everywhere in the world. You can wear anything in our part of the world. Anything goes.
But don’t let the world get smaller: World Wide Woman cultivates her values for the sake of our planet and all who live on her. We hope she is growing more powerful and in numbers, in touch with the wonder of… reality, controlling her man through the fire of her Imagination and vision. (more…)

Designed to do good…
Vivienne Westwood has designed the latest collection of ‘Chari-tees’ for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day – 18th March 2011. Westwood has always had a passion for things that matter and has never been afraid to make a political or cultural statement through fashion.
Working closely with Comic Relief on a range of T-shirts, Westwood comments, “I once did a collection called ‘I am Expensiv’, meaning that we are supported by the suffering of the whole world in our privilege bubbles and we must try and help people a bit. Comic Relief does a lot and I try to help where I can. My main problem at the minute is climate change. I do believe we are an endangered species and I think it is great to try and do anything you possibly can even if to help just one person. But Comic Relief does more than that.” (more…)

Vivienne Westwood Ethical Fashion Initiative Collection
The Vivienne Westwood Ethical Fashion Initiative Bags are “Handmade with love” in Nairobi. Produced in collaboration with the Ethical Fashion Initiative (EFI) of the International Trade Centre – a joint body of the United Nations (UN) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) –which currently supports the work of thousands of women micro-producers from marginalized African communities. The EFI empowers informal manufacturers and craftspeople to enter the international value chain – providing an income for some of the poorest people in the world. This promotes the growth of sustainable business in place of aid dependency and creates stability among these impoverished communities. This is not charity, this is work.
All styles have been created using recycled canvas, reused roadside banners, unused leather off-cuts, and recycled brass, produced in Kibera slum (Nairobi’s biggest), where discarded metal like padlocks and car pieces are collected then melted down. The collections include a range of bag styles for men and women, including unisex rucksacks, totes, patchwork drawstring bags and Maasai hand beaded clutches and key rings and are inspired by the African fabrics and surroundings they are produced in.
Thanks to the great success of the collections so far the Ethical Fashion Initiative has sustained its success and is providing more and more employment for impoverished communities. NOT CHARITY. JUST WORK.
