The Vivienne Westwood Ethical Fashion Initiative Bags are “Handmade with love” in Nairobi, and are produced in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint body of the United Nations (UN) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO), supporting the work of thousands of women micro-producers from marginalized African communities. The ITC empowers informal manufacturers and craftspeople to enter the international value chain, providing an income for some of the poorest people in the world. This promotes the growth of sustainable business in place of aid dependency and creates stability among these impoverished communities. This is not charity, this is work.
The Small Insect Shopper, beautifully painted with an elegant floral design, comes crafted from recycled canvas. With a large insect stitched into the squiggle print canvas on the reverse, this piece opens to reveal a vivid patchwork lining and one press stud closing compartment. With a press stud fastening, this bag comes detailed with unused leather off-cuts on the handles and a detachable strap. The handles measure 29cm, whilst the strap measures 126cm.
Due to the nature of the recycled fabrics used in the making of this case they will have some marks, from their former life, and slight variations in colour from the image shown.
Orbs are made by hand, variations in their appearance is down to the artisan nature of these pieces and should be seen for its craftsmanship rather than a defect.
